Winair, the popular regional airline, connects several islands in the Caribbean. The airline also offers a flexible baggage allowance, helping customers travel with convenience and comfort. This blog gives insight into Winair’s baggage policy. We cover everything in detail, from checked and carry-on baggage allowances to rules for carrying special baggage and more. Keep reading for more details.

How Much Checked Baggage Is Allowed on Winair Flights?

When you book a Winair flight, make sure your checked bags meet the dimensions and weight limits.

  • The maximum weight for carrying checked bags is 50 lbs (23 kg).
  • The maximum dimension is 62 inches (157 cm), including the combined height, width, and length.
  • Infants have a luggage allowance of 10 kg, limited to one piece.
  • Perishable items are also not allowed.

Winair Carry-on Baggage Allowance

Not all travelers have the same carry-on baggage allowance. They vary by the fare purchased.

  • Carry-ons included: For certain fare types, a single carry-on is allowed, weighing not more than 6 kgs or 13 lbs. This is in addition to the personal item you may carry.
  • For fares that do not include carry-ons, you must check them, and a fee will apply.
  • To avoid extra fees, double-check your bags. If your fare doesn’t include carry-ons, an extra $50 will apply.
  • Carry-ons shouldn’t exceed 22 x 12 x 8 inches.

Can You Bring Personal Items On A Winair Flight?

Besides the free bags allowed on board, passengers can even carry a personal item sans any charge. It may be any one of the articles mentioned below:

  • A pocketbook/lady handbag/ purse, appropriate to your regular traveling dress; also, you mustn’t use it as a container to transport articles that should be regarded as baggage otherwise.
  • A wrap/ blanket/ overcoat

The personal items shouldn’t exceed 15 inches x 10 inches x 7 inches.

Some Important Rules For Carrying Checked Bags On Winair Flights

Here are some essential guidelines you must follow regarding checked bags on Winair flights.

  • Label your bags clearly and place your name, contact information, and email address on the outside, with a copy of your itinerary on the inside.
  • Never place valuables in your checked baggage; they may be misplaced.
  • You may carry your mobility aids in the aircraft cabin in case there is enough space. Otherwise, they will be checked for free.
  • You may only carry small birds, dogs, and cats. Check the pet policy for more details.
  • Some equipment cannot go in as carry-on or checked bags. These include hand-gliding equipment, canoes or kayaks, sailboards and windsurfing boards.

Rules for Special Baggage On Winair Flights

Are you traveling with your musical instrument or your sports instrument? You must know the rules and regulations in detail. The maximum weight shouldn’t exceed 23 kg (50 lbs), and the dimensions mustn’t exceed 62 inches (157 cm).

  • Musical instruments aren’t part of the free baggage allowance. They must be well-stored in a hard case. Regular checked baggage charges will apply.
  • Winair accepts scuba diving equipment onboard. You must empty the tank of compressed air and even remove the regulator valve. We will accept it only if there is space, and checked baggage charges will apply.
  • Golf bags are free and included in the passenger’s baggage.
  • The bicycles won’t be accepted if they aren’t properly packed or disassembled. Place the bicycle in a cardboard container. Also, encase the handlebars and pedals in plastic foam. You may even fix the handlebars sideways and remove the pedals. For safety, also deflate the tires. Carrying bicycles incurs a $50 charge and is allowed only if space is available.
  • Winair’s Twin Otter aircraft do not accommodate surfboards. However, you can transport them in ATR aircraft if there’s space.

Winair’s Excess Baggage Rules

Any baggage that exceeds the free allowance will incur an extra charge. Your first free checked baggage depends on your travel class. If you are traveling on a low fare, you may not be eligible for free checked bags.

We will accept the second and third bags on a standby basis, in line with Winair’s safety protocols.

If your bag exceeds 31 kg (70 pounds), we won’t accept it onboard. Each person may not exceed two checked baggage pieces.

As mentioned earlier, the dimensions shouldn’t exceed 62 inches. If you have oversized bags, please contact the Winair team.

What Items Are Prohibited And Restricted On Winair Flights?

To prevent in-flight danger, some items are restricted and cannot be carried on board. Let us check out some of the dangerous and prohibited items:

  • Flammable liquids and solids – Fuels, lighters, refills, matches, and paints
  • Explosives – Flares, sparklers, fireworks
  • Toxic substances – Acids, bleach, poison, solvents
  • Perishables
  • Magnetized materials
  • Ammunitions
  • Wildlife and flora
  • Sharp and any dangerous objects that may be used onboard as weapons

Some items are allowed in both checked and cabin baggage, while others may be allowed in either checked or carry-on luggage. Let’s check them out.

  • Digital cameras (less than 160 watt/hour, switched off), laptops, tablets, drones (less than 160 watt/hour, switched off), gels, liquids, and aerosols (less than or equal to 100 ml) can be carried in both cabin and checked baggage.
  • Batteries, e-cigarettes, vaporizers, matchboxes, and lighters are allowed in cabin baggage but not in checked baggage.
  • Sharp instruments (scissors, knives, and other sharp objects), firearms and work tools, as well as blunt instruments and tools, can be carried only in checked baggage, not in your cabin luggage.

Rules for Liquids

You can bring gels, liquids, aerosols, pastes and creams in your carry-on bag. They should be in travel-sized containers that shouldn’t exceed 3.4 ounces. Keep them in a small bag and separate them from other items in your carry-on. This way, screening goes faster.

Winair’s Rules for Lost Baggage

Are you unable to find your bags after your arrival? This may happen due to safety reasons.

The crew assesses the balance and weight before your flight departs. This helps ensure safe takeoff and landing, especially in bad weather.

Because of this, you cannot fly with your bags. However, the airline ensures your bag reaches you within 24-48 hours after you arrive at the airport. When you arrive, look for a Winair agent to help you file a PIR (Property Irregularity Report). Once you have the file number, you can track your lost bags online.

If your baggage is delayed for more than two days, you may declare it missing or damaged online. Also, mail your claim to customerrelations@fly-winair.com.

If your baggage is damaged, you can also file a PIR report within seven days of receiving your baggage. However, the team isn’t responsible for minor dents, marks, or scratches caused by regular handling. They are also not liable for damage caused by the bag’s poor quality, overpacking, perishable items, existing defects, and more.

Conclusion

So, that’s Winair’s baggage policy in a nutshell. Checked and carry-on bag rules depend on your fare type.

Value and Prime fares have a more flexible baggage policy, whereas Saver and Lite fares allow just a personal item for a fee, no carry-ons, and a paid checked bag. Always know your baggage limitations beforehand to avoid inconvenience. When carrying special baggage like sports equipment or musical instruments, always pack them well to avoid damage.
